Eighth seed East Carolina (29-27) will open the 2017 American Athletic Conference Baseball Championships on Tuesday, May 23 when it plays top seed UCF at Spectrum Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.

Junior center Drew Kyser was named to the Rimington Trophy Spring Watch List. Kyser was one of seven centers from the American Athletic Conference to earn a spot on the Spring Watch List.

Memphis senior outfielder Chris Carrier has been named to the American Athletic Conference first team, the league office announced Monday. Carrier becomes the fourth Tigers baseball player to earn AAC first-team recognition and the first since Nolan Blackwod and Tucker Tubbs in 2015.

Kirk Morgan tossed a career-high eight shutout innings, while Nick Barber, Dusty Baker and Brady Lloyd each had RBI base hits helping East Carolina to a 3-0 American Athletic Conference win over Connecticut Saturday afternoon at J.O. Christian Field. With the win the Pirates close out the regular season 29-27 and 7-17 in league play, while the Huskies fall to 31-23 and 14-10.

The UCF baseball team evened up the weekend series with South Florida Friday, defeating the Bulls 9-1 at the UCF Baseball Complex. Saturday's series finale will mark the end of the 2017 campaign and ultimately help determine The American's regular-season champion.
