UCF baseball head coach Rich Wallace has announced the additions of Morgan DePew and Joe Sheridan to his staff. DePew will serve as the program’s director of baseball operations, while Sheridan will be the director of player development.

DePew comes to Orlando after making stops as an assistant coach at Jacksonville, St. Johns River State, Saint Leo, and Lee University. Sheridan, who played baseball for the Knights from 2017-2020, enters his first season on Wallace’s staff after most recently serving as the interim head baseball coach at Siena College.

“We are thrilled to have Morgan and Joe join our staff. Both will be great assets to our program and we’re looking forward to building a rich tradition of success together here at UCF."

The past three seasons, DePew was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at St. Johns River State College in Palatka, Florida (2021-2023). During his time in Palatka, he helped the Vikings compile a combined a 103-69 record, which included a 46-19 clip in 2023, and a trip to the 2023 NJCAA DII Baseball World Series.

DePew previously spent two years as a volunteer assistant at Jacksonville University (2019 and 2020) where he helped the Dolphins to a 32-27 record in 2019 and a 9-9 mark during the Covid-shortened 2020 campaign. Prior to his time at Jacksonville, he served as the outfield coach at Saint Leo University for the 2018 season in Saint Leo, Florida, where he also assisted with hitting and base running.

Before his time in Sunshine State, DePew spent the summer of 2017 as an assistant coach with the La Crosse Loggers of the Northwoods League and the 2016 summer as an assistant for the Dubois Country Bombers in 2016. DePew held his first collegiate coaching position as a graduate assistant at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, in 2017.

A four-year collegiate athlete, DePew played two years at Illinois Central College before finishing his college career at Saint Joseph’s College.

DePew earned a bachelor’s in sport management from Saint Joseph’s in 2016 and an MBA from Lee University in 2017.

“Morgan has been around the game of baseball for several years now and has had his hands in various areas of the coaching ranks. We know that he will do great things for us as our director of ops and his experience will be invaluable for our program,” Wallace added. “We truly would like to welcome him, and his wife Paige, to the UCF Baseball family.”

Sheridan, a former four-year southpaw pitcher and Freshman All-American for the Knights, went on to finish his collegiate career with a year in South Bend where he pitched the 2021 campaign for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Upon completing his collegiate eligibility, he then spent the fall of 2021 as the director of player development with the Cincinnati Bearcats, before moving to Siena College as an assistant coach. After spending the 2022 campaign and the first-half of the 2023 season as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for Siena, Sheridan was then promoted to the program’s interim head coach following the retirement of longtime head coach Tony Rossi.

Despite facing a challenging schedule ahead of him, Sheridan helped lead the Saints to 12 victories over the competition during the second-half of 2023 at Siena, which included a win over 2023 NCAA Tournament team and MAAC Tournament champion Rider and another against two-time defending Southern Conference champion Wofford.

While in Loudonville, Sheridan aided in both the recruitment and development of a youth movement, which yielded MAAC All-Rookie Team honors for a pair of Saints. He also helped six of Siena’s seven returning pitchers improve their respective ERAs from the previous season.

During his first season with Siena, Sheridan helped standout hurler Ben Seiler earn the program’s inaugural National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Dick Howser Trophy National Co-Pitcher of the Week award after Seiler set a 2022 NCAA single-game high with 19 strikeouts against Niagara.

Sheridan also previously spent the past two summers as a scout for Perfect Game USA, where he attended scouting showcases for high school players.

Sheridan, who hails from nearby Oviedo, Florida, advanced to the NCAA Tournament twice during his collegiate career—advancing to the NCAA Regionals as a freshman at UCF in 2017 and the NCAA Super Regionals at Notre Dame in 2021. He also helped the Knights capture a conference title in 2017 (AAC) and another for the Fighting Irish in 2021 (ACC).

Sheridan earned a bachelor's degree from UCF in human communication with a business and professional track in 2020 and master’s in management from Notre Dame in 2021.

“It’s fantastic to have Joe back home here at UCF. He learned a wealth of knowledge over the last couple of years and we know that he will do stellar things for our program. We can’t wait for him to get to work as our director of player development,” Wallace concluded.
