Virginia Tech junior infielder Carson DeMartini was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, while Wake Forest junior right-handed pitcher Chase Burns earned the conference’s Pitcher of the Week honors for the second straight week.

The ACC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week are selected by a 17-member voting panel composed of media members and announced on Mondays during the regular season.

DeMartini hit seven home runs during Virginia Tech's 3-1 week that included its first series win at Louisville since 1995. The junior recorded three multi-homer games during each of the Hokies' victories. DeMartini extended his hitting streak to six consecutive games. In four games this week, he batted .600 (9-for-15), scored 10 runs and compiled 11 RBIs, while also drawing five walks. The Virginia Beach, Virginia, native hit two of Virginia Tech's eight home runs against Marist (March 12) that set the program's ACC-era record. On Sunday, DeMartini was firing on all cylinders, recording a three-homer game during his first three at-bats in the series finale. DeMartini has led the Hokies to the program’s best six-game start in the ACC, best 18-game start to a season since 2012, and a No. 19 ranking in this week’s D1Baseball poll.

On Monday, DeMartini was also named National Player of the Week by D1Baseball.

Burns repeats as the ACC Pitcher of the Week after fanning 13 of the 26 batters he faced Saturday, which is tied for the fifth-highest single-game strikeout total in Wake Forest history. Burns also became the first player in program history to have 13 or more strikeouts in back-to-back games as he had a career-high 14 strikeouts in a victory over No. 12 Duke last Saturday. The Hendersonville, Tennessee, native is the first player to strike out 13 or more Virginia batters in a single game since 2009 when San Diego State’s Stephen Strasburg, the eventual No. 1 overall pick in the MLB Draft, did so. In addition to his 13 strikeouts, Burns allowed just one run on two hits over 7.0 innings. In his first five appearances this season, Burns holds a perfect mark of 4-0 with 56 strikeouts in 30.1 innings of work and a 2.08 ERA. The Demon Deacons’ righthander currently sits at 16.7 strikeouts per nine innings through his first five outings.
