Thanks to five Blue Devils scoring in double figures, No. 17 Duke defeated No. 25 Ohio State, 81-72, Wednesday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Freshman Kyle Filipowski led the way with 16 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists as the Blue Devils improved to 7-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Duke opened its scoring courtesy of Filipowski, who scored the first two baskets for the Blue Devils.
  • Jacob Grandison gave Duke its first lead at the 15:08 mark with a putback layup pushing the Blue Devils ahead, 11-10.
  • A three-point play by Filipowski leveled the score at 20 apiece with just under nine minutes to play until halftime.
  • Duke's defense held Ohio State scoreless for over a four-minute stretch while forcing four turnovers to open up a 27-23 lead.
  • The Blue Devils made six of their final nine shots to finish the half with a 39-29 lead.
  • Dereck Lively II reached double figures for the first time in his Duke career courtesy of a dunk with just under 11 minutes to play, giving Duke a 56-47 lead.
  • A jumper by Jeremy Roach with three and a half minutes remaining gave the junior 11 points on the night and made him the fifth Blue Devil in double figures.
  • Tyrese Proctor, who scored 12, gave Duke a 59-49 lead with 10 minutes remaining.
  • The Buckeyes would close the gap to as few as five at 72-67 with 3:06 to play, but Filipowski answered with an old-fashioned three-point play and OSU got no closer.

QUOTES

  • "We stood up to the adversity. [Ohio State] cut it to down to five and then we kind of got the lead back up to eight or nine, so I'm just happy with the performance and how much our resilience was tonight.  [A win like this] builds a lot of confidence.  Just beating those kinds of teams, it's big for us for the NCAA Tournament and obviously for our confidence.  I think this win tonight was big for us." -- junior guard Jeremy Roach
