Duke had all five starters score in double figures on Monday night as the Blue Devils (20-8, 11-6) defeated Louisville, 79-62, at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Jeremy Roach led the scoring efforts with 14 points and was joined in double-figures by Kyle Filipowski (13), Mark Mitchell (13), Tyrese Proctor (12)and Dereck Lively II (10).

Filipowski spearheaded the efforts on the glass with his seven boards and was followed closely by Ryan Young's six rebounds and four each from Lively, Mitchell and Proctor. Roach dished out six assists, his most in a game since logging five against Ohio State on Nov. 30. His six assists were alongside zero turnovers, just the second time in Roach's career that he's had at least six assists and no giveaways (vs. Illinois, 12/8/20).

Proctor connected on a career-high four three-pointers en route to his 12 points and Lively set a new career-high for free throws made, going 4-for-6 from the line.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • A pair of dunks by Dereck Lively II and Kyle Filipowski opened the scoring for the Blue Devils. A hot start by Louisville's El Ellis had the visitors ahead, 13-7, just over five minutes into the game.
  • A 10-0 run by Duke over the span of 2:12 gave the Blue Devils their first lead of the game, 19-18, with 10:43 on the clock. Four different players contributed during the run, including back-to-back three-pointers from Tyrese Proctor and Jacob Grandison.
  • Duke's defense held Louisville without a made field goal for almost three minutes and had extended its lead to seven, 31-24, at the final media timeout of the first half.
  • Mark Mitchell was the first Blue Devil to reach double-figures after a three-point play gave the freshman 11 first-half points on 4-of-6 shooting.
  • A last-second jumper by Jeremy Roach sent Duke into halftime ahead by nine, 42-33. Roach's jumper marked the first time in ACC play that every Duke player that played in the first half scored.
  • The Blue Devils emerged from halftime with a quick seven-point burst. A jumper by Roach and five points from Filipowski made it a 49-35 game and forced a timeout by Louisville just over 90 seconds into the second half.
  • Grandison's third three-pointer of the game opened up a 17-point lead for Duke, its largest of the game, 59-42, with 13:41 remaining. Louisville responded by cutting the lead to 10, 61-51, with just under 10 minutes on the clock.
  • Louisville continued to remain within striking distance, but never managed to get the lead into single-digits as Duke closed out the 79-62 victory.

QUOTES

  • "To me, it just speaks to our growth. That's what we've harped on to our guys all year round. Let's continue to grow, let's continue to be at our best when our best is required and when our best is needed down the stretch. You know when they start saying it to each other the message is getting through. They're taking great ownership because they really want to get this one tonight, just to keep this thing going." -- head coach Jon Scheyer, on the success in the quick turnaround from Saturday to Monday
  • "Louisville's a tough team. Obviously, they're playing their best basketball right now. They had a close one with UVa, obviously beat Clemson, so we knew what we were in for. We knew they were playing with house money and they were going to be confident, especially with [Louisville assistant coach, Nolan Smith] coming back. It's a great team win and I'm happy." -- junior guard Jeremy Roach
