Texas Tech head coach Grant McCasland has announced the signing of transfer Chance McMillian who averaged 10.9 points and 2.2 assists per game last season at Grand Canyon. McMillian played three seasons for the Lopes where he produced 644 points, 143 assists, 52 steals and 226 rebounds in 89 games played.

A Vallejo, California native, McMillian is listed as a 6-foot-3, 185-pound guard who maintains two more seasons of eligibility remaining. He went 60-for-135 (44.4 percent) on 3-pointers last season and is 104-for-261 (39.8 percent) for his career.

"We are excited to add Chance to our program," McCasland said. "Chance is an athletic, skilled guard that will bring experience and leadership to our roster."

McMillian is coming off a strong third season at GCU where he helped lead the Lopes to the NCAA Tournament and led the team with 26 steals. He made 23 starts and played in 34 games, finishing the season averaging 10.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game – all career highs. He had averaged 5.7 points in the 2021-22 season after averaging 4.2 ppg. in the 2020-21 season to begin his career. McMillian scored 16 points and had four rebounds and four assists in a loss to Gonzaga in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. He had 17 points in an upset-win over Sam Houston in the WAC semifinals where he made five 3-pointers and then had six assists and seven points to help GCU top Southern Utah to win its conference tournament.

McMillian scored in double figures 19 times last season, including going off for a career-high 24 points against SFA in a game where he was 9-for-11 from the field and 6-of-7 on 3-pointers. He also had four assists in that performance. McMillian also recorded a 21-point game against Abilene Christian after going 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. Grand Canyon went 64-27 during his three seasons in Arizona. As a freshman, McMillian and the Lopes advanced to the 2021 NCAA Tournament after earning a 74-56 win over New Mexico in the WAC Tournament finals with him providing nine points and four rebounds. GCU would play Iowa in the NCAA Tournament, falling 86-74 in the first round.

Prior to GCU, McMillian attended Golden State College Prep for one season after graduating from Jesse Bethel High School where he played his senior season. He had attended St. Patrick-St. Vincent HS his first three years. As a senior, he averaged 28.8 points in conference play and was named the Tri-County Athletic League Stone Division MVP.

McMillian is the second transfer to be added by McCasland from the transfer portal following Darrion Williams who signed last week after playing at Nevada during his freshman season.
