TCU busted out of an early slump to score 55 points in the second half, matching UTRGV's total for the game, in an 88-55 win over the Vaqueros Tuesday at Schollmaier Arena.

JaKobe Coles finished his third-straight game in double-figures with 16 points.
 
The Horned Frogs (3-0) scored the game's first five points, but the Vaqueros (1-2) countered with a 9-0 run to take the lead. The two teams tied five times in the half. Despite 12 first half turnovers, TCU's largest first half lead of 11 came at halftime, 33-22.
 
The second half opened up with a 3-pointer from Emanuel Miller, one of a career-high three 3-pointers on the night.  Miller scored all 11 of his points in the second period.
 
Avery Anderson III also excelled in the second half with 13 of his 15 points coming in the final period. Also scoring in double figures on the night were Jameer Nelson Jr. with 15 points and Micah Peavy with 10. 
 
TCU cut its first half turnover total in half with six in the second and shot 57.9 percent from the field, including 6-of-11 from three to slowly pull away. TCU finished 8-of-17 (47.1 percent) from deep for the game and held UTRGV to 2-of-11 (18.2 percent). 
 
Much like the first half, TCU's largest lead came after the last bucket of the game as Essam Mostafa gave Trey Stuart his first-career assist with five seconds remaining. 
 
The Frogs outrebounded the Vaqueros 44-26, led by nine by Mostafa. TCU had a season-high 24 assists. 
 
UTRGV was spearheaded by Elijah Elliott's 19 points.
 
The Frogs continue a six-game homestand on Friday at 7 p.m. against Mississippi Valley State at Schollmaier Arena. The game will be available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.

  • TCU improved to 7-1 all-time against the UTRGV.
  • This win marks the Horned Frogs' eighth straight 3-0 start to a season.
