AAC Preview: Undefeated UCF Knights Host UConn Huskies

The UConn Huskies have looked like two different teams lately, winning two conference games before suffering the current two-game skid and Randy Edsall's team is hoping that skid doesn't extend to a third game.

Anything is possible in college football, but standing in the way of UConn are the undefeated UCF Knights, which await the Huskies on Saturday for a noon kickoff inside of Spectrum Stadium. UCF is sitting at 8-0 and chasing a New Year's Six Bowl bid, but Scott Frost knows his team can't look past UConn.

In just his second year, Frost has taken the Knights to new heights with their best in-season ranking in program history at No. 12 in the Coaches Poll. On top of that, Central Forida sports the best scoring offense in the nation with 48.5 points per game.

Let's take a look at both of these AAC East teams:

UConn Huskies | Coach: Randy Edsall | 3-6 (2-4 American)
UConn looks to get back on track after a 37-20 setback to USF last Saturday in the Huskies' home finale. UConn had won back-to-back games against Temple and Tulsa, but has dropped two straight. The Huskies, who averaged 320.0 yards per game last season, have averaged 412.0 yards in 2017. QB Bryant Shirreffs has thrown for 2,287 yards and 14 touchdowns with five interceptions in eight games. Shirreffs is second in The American and 15th nationally in pass efficiency (153.6). Freshman RB Kevin Mensah (369 yards) and freshman RB Nate Hopkins (301 yards) are the team's rushing leaders. WR Hergy Mayala has 32 catches for 503 yards and five touchdowns and is 10th in The American in receiving yards (71.9 ypg). LB Junior Joseph leads the defense with 77 tackles.

UCF Knights | Coach: Scott Frost | 8-0 (5-0 American)
UCF is ranked No. 14 in the Associated Press poll and No. 12 in the coaches' poll after the Knights took a 31-24 win at SMU to remain unbeaten. The rankings are the highest for UCF since the Knights were No. 10/12 in the final polls of the 2013 season. The Knights are 8-0 for the first time in program history. UCF leads the nation in scoring (48.5 ppg). QB McKenzie Milton has enjoyed a breakout year with 2,409 passing yards and 20 touchdowns with five interceptions. Milton is ranked second nationally in pass efficiency (189.1). RB Adrian Killins Jr. leads the team in rushing with 575 yards and seven TDs. WR Tre'Quan Smith has 33 catches for 641 yards and nine touchdowns. CB Mike Hughes leads a talented secondary with two interceptions and eight pass breakups and is the national leader in punt return average (20.5 ypr)
