LAST TIME OUT
NC State opened its 2021 season on Sunday with a doubleheader sweep over Davidson at Doak Field at Dail Park. Thanks to a 10-run fifth inning in game one, the Wolfpack earned a 13-3 win. The nightcap was a back-and-forth contest with five lead changes, but NC State came out on top with a 6-4 victory.

Danny Carnazzo, Eddie Eisert, Coby Ingle and Tristan Sipple made their first appearances in a Wolfpack uniform, while Sam Highfill earned his first career start on the mound in game two.

Its win in game one marked the fifth time in six years that the Pack has clinched a victory in its season opener. Additionally, NC State has won the last 11 meetings with Davidson in the all-time series.

SERIES HISTORY
Tuesday will mark the 37th meeting between the teams, as the Wolfpack leads 28-8 in the all-time series. The teams last met on April 17, 2017 in Raleigh, and the Pack earned a 10-1 win to secure the series sweep that season.

NC State has won its last four matchups with the Spartans.

TEN-GAME HOME STAND
Tuesday's contest marks the third of a 10-game home stand for the Pack. The squad is set to host ACC opponents Georgia Tech Feb. 25-28 and Miami March 5-7, as well as midweek opponent Campbell March 3 before making its first road trip of the year to Duke March 12-14.

APPROACHING 900 WINS AT NC STATE
Head coach Elliott Avent, who is in his 25th season at the helm of the #Pack9, currently sits at 891 wins at NC State. He is nine away from reaching the 900-win milestone and is the winningest head coach in NC State history.

Additionally, he is one of 18 active DI head baseball coaches with at least 1,000 career wins and is the 11th-winningest active head coach in NCAA baseball.

PICKING UP WHERE THEY LEFT OFF
Jonny Butler, Tyler McDonough and Austin Murr picked up right where they left off in the 2020 season on Sunday. Dating back to last season, McDonough and Murr have reached base safely in their last 19 games. Dating back to the 2019 season, Butler is currently on a 22-game reached base streak.

Additionally, McDonough owns a seven-game hit streak and Tresh is on a six-game hit streak dating back to the shortened 2020 campaign.

SCOUTING UNCG
The Spartans opened their season last weekend with a series win over Elon. The squad dropped its opener, 7-4, but came back with 8-3 and 3-2 victories to clinch the series.

Last season, the team went 12-5 and ended on a five-game win streak. UNCG returns a lot of key pieces from last year's pitching staff that finished with a program-best earned-run average (3.24) and batting average against (.245). The team also brings back a majority of its contributors offensively that compiled a .283 team batting average along with 162 hits, 113 runs and 100 runs batted in in 2020.

UNCG was picked to finish third in the 2021 Southern Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, while Austin Koehn, Zack Budzik and Greg Hardison were named to this year's All-So-Con Preseason Second Team. The trio earned All-SoCon honors in 2019, while Budzik ranked fifth nationally in stolen bases (12-for-13) and Hardison ranked 15th in the NCAA with eight doubles in the 2020 season.
