The John Mackey Award has named Hayden Hurst of South Carolina as the John Mackey Tight End of the Week. The Southeastern Conference junior had seven receptions for a career high 93 yards as South Carolina fell to undefeated Georgia 24-10.

South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp met with the media for his weekly news conference and covered a wide array of topics, including Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema, the issues the Gamecocks have had with the redzone offense and more. The South Carolina Gamecocks (3-1, 1-1 SEC) return to the road and to SEC action when they travel to College Station, Texas to face the Texas A&M Aggies (3-1, 1-0 SEC) on Saturday, September 30. Game time is set for 7:30 pm ET (6:30 pm CT).

The 2017 regular season gets underway on Saturday, Sept. 2, when the South Carolina Gamecocks (0-0) travel to Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte for a 3 pm kick against the NC State Wolfpack (0-0) out of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Maybe the thinnest unit on the field this fall will be at the linebacker position, where Skai Moore is the only returning scholarship upperclassmen on the roster. Certainly, senior Bryson Allen-Williams, who has been working primarily at the Buck position this fall, figures into this group as well, but linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler will certainly need more than one newcomer to step up and contribute immediately.
