The No. 23 (AP) / No. 24 (Coaches) Tulane football team (11-3) lost to Virginia Tech (7-6) on Wednesday at the GoBowling Military Bowl at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium by a 41-20 margin.

The team battled tough and tied the game up in the third quarter at 17 only to see the Hokies outscore the program 24-3

Kai Horton went 13-for-20 in the game for 97 yards passing. He also had a rushing touchdown. Makhi Hughes tallied 88 yards rushing on his 15 carries. He had a long of 24. Yulkeith Bown led the team in catches with five and receiving yards with 63. Brown also had 18 yards on the ground.

Tyler Grubbs led the defense with 10 tackles. He also scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery. Jared Small totaled nine tackles, a forced fumble and two stops for loss. A.J. Hampton had five tackles. Devean Deal totaled three tackles and a stop for loss. Matthew Fobbs-White had a sack and forced fumble.

Valentino Ambrosio knocked in both of his field goal attempts to account for six points.

Tulane scored first as Grubbs had 21-yard scop and score fumble return touchdown at the 12:01 mark of the first quarter.

Virginia Tech cut the deficit to four points on a 36-yard made field goal from Jon Love to put the score at 7-3 with 5:33 remaining in the opening quarter.

The Hokies took the lead off a short field after a muffed punt from Tulane. Virginia Tech scored on an 11-yard rush from Kyron Drones with 2:21 remaining in the first quarter.

Tulane tied the game up on a career-long 49-yard field goal from Valentino Ambrosio to knot the game up at 10 all with 4:40 remaining in the second quarter.

The Hokies took the lead just before the half on a one-yard touchdown pass from Drones to Harrison Saint Germain to put Virginia Tech up 17-10 with just 00:08 remaining in the opening half.

After a forced fumble from the Tulane defense, Kai Horton tied the game up at 17 all on a six-yard touchdown scamper with 12:52 remaining in the third quarter.

The Hokies answered on the ensuing drive and took a 24-17 on a nine-yard rushing touchdown from Bhayshul Tuten with 10:31 remaining in the third stanza.

After a defensive stop by Virginia Tech, the Hokies picked up a 35-yard field goal from John Love with 5:28 remaining in the third quarter to go up two scores, 27-17.

Tulane again made it a one-score game as Ambrosio knocked in a 20-yard field goal to put the margin at 27-20 with 14:56 remaining in the game.

The Hokies promptly march down and field and made it a two touchdown deficit for Tulane, 34-20, as Drones connected with Benji Gosnell from the 10 at the 12:38 mark of the fourth quarter.

The Hokies scored their last touchdown as Tuten ran it in 12-yards out with 9:33 remaining in the game in what would be the final score.
