Texas State junior linebacker Sione Tupou has been named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week after recording a career-high and game-high 14 tackles in Texas State's 33-31 quadruple overtime victory over South Alabama last Saturday night. Tupou also forced and recovered a fumble to help the Bobcats win the game.

With Texas State trailing 24-10 in the fourth quarter, Tupou forced a fumble by South Alabama, and the Bobcats recovered at the Jaguars' 41-yard line to set up a 41-yard touchdown drive to pull Texas State to within seven points with 7:17 left to play. The Bobcats scored another touchdown with 17 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

After both teams scored a touchdown in the first overtime period, the Bobcats missed a field goal attempt on their possession in the second overtime period. But Markeveon Coleman forced a fumble by A.J. Phillips, and Tupou recovered the ball to continue the game.

Under the new NCAA rules, both teams take possession at the three-yard line for two-point conversions in the third overtime period. South Alabama's first possession saw Tupou knocking the ball down in the end zone. On Texas State's attempt, Brady McBride was tackled just short of the goal line, forcing a fourth overtime.

McBride scored on a three-yard run on Texas State's next possession, and the Bobcats knocked away another pass by South Alabama for its second overtime victory of the season.

Texas State will be looking for its second straight win and third victory of the season when the Bobcats host Troy in a Sun Belt Conference game at Bobcat Stadium at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
