Michigan ice hockey head coach Brandon Naurato announced four players who will make up the incoming freshman class, with five players selected from the transfer portal to join the Wolverines.

The four-member freshman class includes, forwards Nick Moldenhauer, Tanner Rowe, Garrett Schifsky and defenseman Josh Orrico, while four graduate transfers join the Maize and Blue: Andrew Albano, Jacob Barczewski, Chase Pletzke, Marshall Warren as well as undergrad transfers Tyler Duke and Josh Eernisse.

• Posted a 12-4-2 record with a .928 save percentage and a 1.71 GAA

• Four-year starter at Canisius
• Led the Golden Griffins to the 2023 Atlantic Hockey Championship and NCAA Tournament
• First team all-conference in 2021-22 and third-team in 2022-23
• Named the 2020-21 Canisius Male Athlete of the Year
• Played in 100 NCAA games, with a 44-42-8 record, a .917 save percentage and a 2.60 goals-against average and adds four assists
• Two-time Atlantic Hockey all-academic team

• Played in all 40 games at OSU in 2022-23
• Finished with 12 points on five goals and eight assists, was a +9 and had 41 blocked shots
• Played two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program
• Totaled 43 points (6-37--43) in 98 games with the USNTDP and added 23 points in USHL contests
• Won a silver medal at the 2022 IIHF U18 World Championship
• Attended the 2023 World Junior Summer Showcase

Josh Eernisse | F | 6-2/205 | Right | Apple Valley, Minn. | St. Thomas/Tri-City
• Played his rookie season at St. Thomas in 2022-23
• Finished second on the team in scoring with 21 points on 14 goals and seven assists
• Played in 36 games on both special teams and blocked 40 shots
• Collected points in 15 games and had five multi-point games
• Previously played for Tri-City Storm (USHL)

Chase Pletzke | F | 5-11/175 | Left | Bay City, Mich. | Miami/Langley
• Played four seasons at Miami of Ohio, appearing in 100 career games
• Totaled 15 goals and nine assists for 24 points as a Red Hawk
• Four-time NCHCA all-academic team selection

Nick Moldenhauer | F | 5-10/170 | Right | Mississauga, Ont. | Chicago Steel (USHL)
• Member of the Chicago Steel the last two seasons
• Second on the team in scoring in 2022-23 with 75 points (30-45-75) in 50 games
• Named to the USHL All-Rookie team in 2022 and third team All-USHL in 2023
• Lauded for the adversity he faced during his draft year, missing months due to an illness and ensuing facial laceration in his game back
• Helped the Steel win the 2021 Clark Cup, along with fellow Wolverines Adam Fantilli, Luca Fantilli and Mackie Samoskevich
• Averaged 1.18 points per game with Chicago with 120 points (48-72-120) in 102 games
• Played on the 2021-22 Canada U18 World Championships with Fantilli and Conor Bedard
• Drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the third round of the 2022 NHL Draft (No. 95 overall)

Josh Orrico | D | 5-9/165 | Right | Woodbridge, Ont. | Janesville Jets (NAHL)
• Played with the Janesville Jets (NAHL) in 2022-23
• In 43 games with the Jets, he had 15 points (2-13-15)
• Spent the 2021-22 season in the BCHL playing with both Chilliwack and Trail
• Played 54 games with Chiefs and Smoke Easters, totaling 16 points (4-12-16)
• Attended St. Andrew's College, graduating in 2021
• Played three years for St. Andrew's and was alternate captain as a senior
• The team was the champion of both the Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) and National Independent School Invitational Championship (NISIC)
• Previously played with the Islanders Hockey Club (NCDC)

Tanner Rowe | F | 6-1/180 | Left | Calumet, Mich. | Omaha Lancers (USHL)
• Played two seasons the Omaha Lancers (USHL), serving as alternate captain in 2022-23
• Totaled 26 points (10-16-26) while with the Lancers
• Played the 2020-21 season with the Maryland Black Bears (NAHL)
• Attended Calumet High School and played hockey for the Copper Kings
• In his three seasons at Calumet, he had 114 points (47-67-114) in 76 games
• Named first team all-conference (Michigan High School Athletic Association) and was first team all-state
• Calumet was regional champion and reached the state championship before it was halted due to COVID-19
• Graduated in 2021 from Calumet High School

Garrett Schifsky | F | 5-9/175 | Right | Andover, Minn. | Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL)
• Played the last two seasons with the Waterloo Black Hawks, making the playoffs of the USHL twice
• Named third team All-USHL in 2022-23
• Led the team in scoring for the last two seasons, serving as alternate and team captain
• Team captain in 2022-23 when he had 52 points (28-24-52) in 57 games
• Paced the team as alternate captain in 2021-22 with 46 points
• In 125 USHL career games, he had 100 points (58-42-100)
• Won gold with Team USA at the 2022 World Junior A Challenge
• Scored twice in the WJAC gold-medal game and finished with six points in six games as alternate captain
• Selected to compete at the 2023 BioSteel All-American Game
• Attended Andover High School, where he played three years on the ice hockey team
