The Memphis Tiger men's soccer team rounded out their opening weekend up north today when they took on the Huskies of Northern Illinois.

They would come away with their second win of the weekend after claiming the 3-1 win over NIU on Sunday afternoon.

After today's game, Memphis moves to 2-0 for the season.

KEY MOMENTS

  • With a fairly quiet first half ticking down, Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos would up the Tigers up in the 41' after Jose Maria Ojeda sent a cross into the box that found Rodrigues dos Santos' head for the 1-0 lead.
  • Colin Welsh stood steady in goal for the Tigers, stopping a penalty kick and a secondary shot in the 55' to keep Memphis on top.
  • The duo of Ojeda and Rodrigues dos Santos would link up again in the 59' for the insurance goal with a 2-0 lead.
  • Jackson Kim would get in on the fun after Hayden Anderson got a throw-in into the box and Sancho headed it home in the 77'.
  • NIU would get one to the back of the net in the 79' but it would not be enough to catch the Tigers as Memphis claimed the 3-1 win.


NOTABLES

  • Welsh got the start making three saves in 79 minutes of work while JD Gunn finished out the remainder of the match with one save.
  • This is the second match in a row that Rodrigues dos Santos has scored and just the second time in his career that he has had a multi-goal game.
