The Northeastern men’s track and field program, which won its seventh straight Colonial Athletic Association title in May, capped off a successful spring by taking home three year-end honors in a vote of the league’s head coaches.

Northeastern senior distance runner Alexander Korczynski was named CAA Men’s Track Athlete of the Year, William & Mary sophomore thrower Chris Arias was selected as the CAA Field Athlete of the Year and freshman thrower Nicholas Pisciotta of Northeastern was the CAA Men’s Rookie of the Year. Head coach of Northeastern, Tramaine Shaw, was tabbed as the CAA Men’s Track and Field Coach of the Year by her peers.

Korczynski qualified for the NCAA Championships, earning second-team All-American honors after finishing 15th in the 3000m steeplechase at the National Championship. The senior was the CAA Champion in the 3000m steeplechase, winning the event for the third consecutive season and becoming the first to complete that feat since 1999-2001. Additionally, he was the CAA Champion in the 5000m and won gold in the 1500m at the ECAC Championships. Korczynski becomes the first Northeastern student-athlete to earn CAA Cross Country and Track & Field year-end honors during the same school year in program history.

Arias becomes the third straight Tribe student-athlete to claim CAA Field Athlete of the Year honors. The Red Bank, N.J. native was also named the CAA Championship Most Outstanding Field Performer after winning the javelin (65.20m) by over five meters. Arias was an NCAA East Regional qualifier for the second time in as many seasons. He finished the season top-50 in the NCAA in the javelin with his personal-best throw of 68.35m (224-03).

Pisciotta was a CAA Champion in two events, winning gold in the hammer throw and shot put. In addition, he was one of two CAA freshmen to qualify for the NCAA East Regional, participating in the hammer during postseason competition. In total, the freshman thrower collected four individual victories this spring, with three coming in the hammer throw. Pisciotta recorded a personal-best throw of 61.35m (201-03) in the hammer to top the CAA in the event this spring.

Shaw collects CAA Coach of the Year accolades after leading Northeastern to a record-breaking seventh straight CAA Men’s Track and Field team title this spring. The Huskies won 12 events and had 26 All-CAA performances as Northeastern accumulated 264 points at the CAA Championships. Additionally, Northeastern led the CAA with four NCAA East Regional qualifiers, with Korczynski being the lone CAA student-athlete to advance to the NCAA Championships.
