Joe Ostman Steps Up In The MAC West And League Takes Notice

Central Michigan's Joe Ostman has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week.

Ostman, a senior from Mackinaw City, had four sacks to spearhead the Chippewa defense in a 56-9 victory at Ball State on Saturday.

He finished with five tackles and forced a fumble. He leads all Football Bowl Subdivision teams with 10 sacks this season, and has 24 for his career, the third-highest total in CMU history.

The Chippewa defense held Ball State to 208 total yards including 81 on the ground.

It marks the second time in his career that Ostman has earned the weekly MAC honor. The Chippewas return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Western Michigan.
