Wichita State launched three home runs for a second straight day, racing out to a 12-0 lead and coasting past New Mexico 13-7 on Sunday afternoon at Eck Stadium.

Chuck Ingram set a new career high with five hits, adding three RBI and a pair of runs scored.

The Shockers (9-10) wasted little time hanging a five-spot on the board in the first inning against New Mexico starter Tristin Lively (0-2). After a pair of walks, Chuck Ingram rolled an RBI single through the left side to get the scoring started. Two batters later, Xavier Casserilla coaxed a bases-loaded walk to double the advantage.

Drew Miller made it 3-0 with an RBI groundout, and Seth Stroh delivered the big blow in the inning with an opposite-field, two-run double to increase the lead to 5-0.

Shockers starter Cameron Bye battled his control throughout the afternoon, but used four strikeouts to strand all six New Mexico baserunners he allowed over 3.1 innings. Bye maintained his perfect ERA for the season, as the sophomore righty has now thrown 15.2 innings without allowing an earned run.

Brock Rodden crushed a two-run homer in the bottom of the second to make it 7-0 Wichita State, one of three hits on the day for Rodden.

Not to be outdone, Ingram added a solo shot of his own in the bottom of the fourth to swell the lead to 8-0. Xavier Casserilla also blasted a solo homer leading off the fifth, as Rodden, Ingram, and Casserilla each homered in the final two games of the series.

The bottom of the fifth offered one of the strangest plays of the season. With the bases loaded and one out, Sawyre Thornhill skied a ball over the fence in center for an apparent grand slam. However, on his trip around the bases Thornhill passed Rodden at first base, who then went to the dugout instead of touching home plate. The result was a two-run single and an inning-ending double play, putting the Shockers in front by the score of 12-0.

The bizarre sequence extended Thornhill's season-opening hitting streak to 18 games.

New Mexico rallied for three in the sixth and two in the seventh and eighth against the Wichita State bullpen, getting home runs of their own from Kyle Landers and Kyle Smith to trim the lead to 12-7. The Shockers struck for the final run of the day in the bottom of the eighth when Ingram singled home Rodden for his fifth hit of the afternoon.

Connor Holden worked a flawless ninth to salvage the series finale. LJ McDonough (3-1) earned the win in relief for Wichita State, working two innings with three strikeouts. Derek Shaver also made his first appearance of the season, recording a pair of outs to end the sixth.

The Shockers continue the homestand on Tuesday night against Oklahoma. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
