Oregon centerfielder Mason Neville is one of 25 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award, USA Baseball announced. The award goes to the top amateur baseball player in the nation with the winner announced on June 21.
Neville is the sixth Oregon baseball players all time to be named to the semifinalists for the award, joining Thyler Anderson (2011), Alex Keudell (2012), Jimmie Sherfy (2013), David Peterson (2017) and Aaron Zavala (2021).
Neville (Las Vegas, Nev. / Basic HS), heads into the Big Ten Conference Tournament as the national leader in home runs (26) and home runs per game (0.49). He also ranks 13th nationally in base on balls, 18th in base on balls per game and 26th in runs scored.
The Ducks' junior has already set two new Oregon single-season records, home runs and walks, and is tied for the most runs scored in a season in program history. He heads into Thursday's game slashing .302/.446/.774 with a 1.220 OPS, while accounting for 42 extra-base hits (16 2B) and 56 RBI.
