(BCSNN) — Texas Tech freshman Linkin Garcia was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Monday after hitting .429 with three home runs, 13 RBIs and 11 runs scored across a five‑game span that powered the Red Raiders to five straight victories.
Garcia, a Huntington Beach, Calif., native, raised his season average to .344 and recorded all 13 of his RBIs for the year during last week’s surge. His production helped Texas Tech score 70 runs over the five‑game stretch, reaching at least eight runs in every contest.
Garcia homered twice in Tuesday’s comeback win over UTRGV, helping erase an 8–2 deficit. It marked the first multi‑homer game by a true freshman at Tech since Landon Stripling hit two against Texas Southern in 2024.
Texas Tech enters the week riding its longest winning streak since April 2024, when the Red Raiders won eight straight.
The Red Raiders return to action Friday afternoon, hosting Cal Bakersfield for a three‑game series at Rip Griffin Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
