Dominating a wire-to-wire contest on New Year's Eve, Stanford men's basketball rushed past No. 4/4 Arizona, 100-82, on Sunday at Maples Pavilion.

The Cardinal broke its program record for made 3-pointers, going 16-for-25 (64 percent) on the afternoon, and shot a season-best 58.1 percent from the floor. The performance marked the first time that any Division I team has shot 64% or better with 16 or more made 3s against a team ranked fourth or better since West Virginia accomplished the feat against No. 4 Louisville in the 2005 Elite 8 (18/27, 66.7%).

Stanford has scored a top five AP victory in each of the past three seasons, having also downed the No. 4 Wildcats last season at Maples, 88-79, and No. 5 USC in 2021-22, 75-69. The Cardinal joins Arizona as the only two programs in the country to accomplish the feat. The win is the third for Stanford over Arizona in their last four meetings to the Bay Area.

Kanaan Carlyle led the way with a career-high 28 points on just 13 shots, going 6-for-8 from 3-point range and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. The 28 points is the most for a Stanford freshman since Chasson Randle scored 30 against Arizona State at the 2012 Pac-12 Tournament, and he added a game-high and career-high eight rebounds as well. The 28 points off the bench are the most for Stanford since Aaron Bright had 29 points in 2012 against Illinois State.

Spencer Jones scored 21 points, including a 5-for-6 tally from beyond the arc. Jones moved into 19th place on Stanford's all-time scoring list, ending the day with 1,420 career points. Andrej Stojakovic pitched in 16 points and five rebounds while Maxime Raynaud tallied 12 points and seven rebounds.

Jared Bynum scored nine points and dished a career-high 11 assists, giving him three games this season with double-digit assists.

Stanford scored 100 points for the first time since Feb. 16, 2019, and the 31st time in program history, against Arizona, while the Cardinal was the first unranked team to score in triple digits and win by double digits since Cincinnati leveled No. 4 Louisville, 101-80, in 2003.

Stanford led from wire-to-wire, taking the lead on its first possession, and never looking back. A 10-2 run gave the Cardinal a 22-14 lead with 9:03 remaining in the period, and the Cardinal responded to a 7-0 Arizona run with an 11-0 run of its own. Stanford led by as many as 15 points in the first half, led by four made triples from Carlyle, and entered the halftime ahead by nine, 44-35. The 35 points scored by Arizona were tied for its fewest of the season.

The Cardinal led by double-digits for the last 18:26. Jones made a trip of 3-pointers over the opening four minutes of the frame, extending the Cardinal advantage to 17 points at 60-43. Arizona trailed by as many as 20 points, and Stanford walked out with an 18-point win.

Pac-12 play continues on the road to open the 2024 calendar year, beginning with a Wednesday, Jan. 3 trip to UCLA. The action will air at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
