The University of Memphis' David Jones was named one of the five finalists for the 2024 Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced.

Named after Class of 1993 Hall of Famer and 16-year professional basketball player Julius Erving, the annual honor in its ninth year recognizes the top small forwards in Division I men's college basketball.

The five finalists for the 2024 Julius Erving Award are Jones (Memphis), Baylor Scheierman (Creighton), Dalton Knecht (Tennessee), Keion Brooks Jr. (Washington) and Dillon Jones (Weber State).

Jones is the nation's fifth-leading scorer at 21.9 points per game. He leads The American in field goal makes (210), total points (658) and total steals (66), while ranking second with 10 double-doubles. He is 19th in the nation in free throws made (165) and 22nd in steals per game (2.2).

He is also the Tigers leading rebounder at 7.6 per game.

The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native is looking to become the first Division I player since Zion Williamson in 2018-19 to post a line of 21.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in a season.

Jones has scored 20 or more points 18 times this season and has eclipsed 30 points on four occasions.

Fans can support their favorite player by participating in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, starting Friday, March 8, on hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process.

Later this month, the finalists will be presented to Erving and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The Selection Committee for the Julius Erving Award is composed of top men's college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers.

The winner of the 2024 Erving Award will be presented on a to-be-determined date, along with the other four members of the Men's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Bob Cousy Award (Point Guard), Jerry West Award (Shooting Guard), Karl Malone Award (Power Forward), and the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award (Center).
