Baylor men's basketball signed its sixth transfer this offseason, announcing the addition of Cincinnati guard Dan Skillings Jr.
In three years at Cincinnati, the Blackwood, N.J., product appeared in 100 games with 28 starts shooting 41% from the field, averaging 9.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. In four games against the Bears, Skillings averaged 15.3 points per game, including 24 in January of 2024. Getting an up-close look at him during his last two years in the rugged Big 12 Conference, head coach Scott Drew is excited to have Skillings making shots for the Bears now instead of against them.
"We are obviously very familiar with Dan, seeing him across the court during his time in Cincinnati," Drew said. "The Big 12 is one of the toughest conferences in the country, so it is important to have someone with the skills to compete in this league and the knowledge to know what it takes to be successful night in and night out. We are very excited to add a player of Dan's caliber to our roster."
Last season, Skillings started 13 of 29 games for the Bearcats, averaging 9.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. He scored in double-figures 12 times last season, including three straight 18-point games to open Big 12 play. The last game of that stretch came against the Bears in Waco on Jan. 7, where he hit a season-high five three-pointers. Last season was his best shooting year, knocking down 44% of his shots from the field.
Skillings' first year in the Big 12 was a career season where he averaged career highs in points (12.9), rebounds (6.4) and assists (56) en route to an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention nod. The team leader in points and rebounds, he was the first Bearcat to lead the team in both categories since 2010-11, while also finishing second with 25 blocks. He finished the year with three double-doubles, including 13 points and 11 rebounds against No. 10 Iowa State, one of his 25 double-figure scoring efforts.
As a freshman, Skillings appeared in 35 games, averaging 5.3 points and 3.3 rebounds, highlighted by 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds against Bryant. With his double-double against the Bulldogs, he became the first Cincinnati true freshman to record a double-double since 2020.
Prior to Cincinnati, he attended Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia, where he earned First-Team All-Catholic, All-City and All-State honors. Playing for the Philly Pride on the AAU circuit, he averaged 24.6 points and 10 rebounds per game.
