David "Dickey" Nutt is set to return to his role as assistant coach with University of Missouri men's basketball, announced by Whitten Family Head Coach Dennis Gate.

Nutt joined the Mizzou staff in April 2022 as an assistant coach. After initially announcing he was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024, Nutt was declared cancer free in October 2024. He then spent the 2024-25 season with the Tigers as assistant to the head coach/senior advisor.

"We couldn't be happier to welcome Coach Nutt back to an on-court coaching position as a full-time assistant," Gates said. "His experience and basketball knowledge make him a huge asset to our program and his familiarity with our players and team allows him to make an immediate impact this season. Coach Nutt is a fighter in every sense of the way and after his biggest victory yet, we're thrilled to have him back as an assistant as we compete to win titles on the court."

"I am more excited than ever to return to an on-court position as an assistant and going on my ninth season with Coach Dennis Gates," Nutt said. "Coach Gates is a tremendous leader and I am honored and humbled not only to work alongside him but our entire basketball staff. I can't wait for the return of our team next month."

During his three seasons at Mizzou, Nutt has helped the Tigers to two NCAA Tournament appearances, including the program's first postseason victory in 13 seasons in 2023. This past season, the Tigers earned three top-five victories for the first time since 1988-89 and finished the campaign sixth in a SEC that sent a record 14 teams to the NCAA Tournament.

Overall, Mizzou has eclipsed 20 wins in two seasons with Nutt on the sideline, while also registering the program's best SEC finish since the Tigers joined the league in 2012.

An experienced Division I coach, Nutt joined MU with head-coaching tenures at both Arkansas State from 1995 to 2008 and Southeast Missouri State from 2009 to 2015. The 1998 Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year, Nutt guided Arkansas State to 189 wins, two Sun Belt Championships and the program's only NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament appearance in 1999.

Nutt also enjoyed stints with Gates at Florida State (2015-18) and Cleveland State (2019-21) during his coaching career.
