Boston College is set to take on Massachusetts in the 2025 MGM Springfield Basketball Hall of Fame Classic on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at the MassMutual Center.
The matchup between the Eagles and Minutemen is part of a doubleheader, with Yale and Albany also facing off as part of the event. Tipoff times and network designations will be announced at a later date.
"The Basketball Hall of Fame Classic is a first-class event and gives us the opportunity to play against a quality opponent like UMass in the birthplace of basketball - Springfield, Mass," said the Clement and Elizabeth Izzi Family Head Men's Basketball Coach Earl Grant. "I am looking forward to a fantastic experience for our program and fans."
It marks the first regular season matchup between BC and UMass since the 2014-15 season. Three of the last four meetings have been played on a neutral court. The Eagles last faced UMass in Springfield on Dec. 29, 1990 - an 83-81 loss in the title game of the Hall of Fame Tournament. BC holds a 26-21 edge in the all-time series, which dates back to the 1950-51 season.
The Eagles return All-ACC honoree and Most Improved Player Award winner Donald Hand Jr. as well as redshirt sophomores Fred Payne and Jayden Hastings, while welcoming seven newcomers to the 2025-26 roster - Jason Asemota (Baylor), Chase Forte (South Dakota), Boden Kapke (Butler), Aidan Shaw (Missouri) from the transfer portal as well as true freshmen Jack Bailey, Caleb Steger, and Akbar Waheed III.
