(BCSNN) — Wake Forest men’s basketball lit up the scoreboard Sunday afternoon, pouring in 61 second-half points en route to a 109–65 rout of UMass Lowell at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Demon Deacons improved to 3–1 on the season and 3–0 at home.
The Deacs shot 55.9% from the field (38-of-68) and 43.3% from three (13-of-30), including a blistering 56.8% in the second half. Five players scored in double figures, led by graduate forward Tre’Von Spillers and sophomore guard Juke Harris, who each tallied 21 points.
Spillers was nearly perfect from the floor, going 8-of-9 and becoming just the 16th Wake Forest player since 1996–97 to score 20+ points while shooting 88% or better. Harris added six rebounds, three steals, and two assists, continuing his breakout season with a 21.5 points-per-game average.
Senior guard Nate Calmese posted a season-high 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including 3-of-4 from deep, and led the team with seven assists. Junior forward Omaha Biliew had a career-best 13 points on a perfect 4-of-4 from the field, including his first three-pointer of the season. Myles Colvin added 13 off the bench, highlighted by a buzzer-beating heave to end the first half.
Defensively, Wake Forest held the River Hawks to 27.3% from three and forced 15 turnovers, converting them into 14 steals. The Deacs now average 12.5 steals per game.
