(BCSNN) - No. 2 Michigan didn’t waste time reminding everyone why it’s one of the nation’s most complete teams. The Wolverines doubled up La Salle 102–50 on Sunday afternoon at Crisler Center, extending their unbeaten start to 11–0 with another overwhelming, methodical performance.
Freshman Trey McKenney led Michigan in scoring for the first time this season, finishing with 17 points — 11 before halftime — while hitting all three of his first‑half threes. Elliot Cadeau added 14 points, including three triples of his own, and Aday Mara recorded his fourth double‑double of the year with 10 rebounds and a perfect shooting night (5‑for‑5 from the field, 4‑for‑4 at the line).
L.J. Cason delivered a season‑high 13 points with four assists, and Morez Johnson Jr. added 10 points, four rebounds, and three steals as Michigan placed five players in double figures.
First Half
Cadeau opened the scoring with a three from the top of the key, and Michigan quickly turned defense into offense. Nimari Burnett forced a turnover that led to a Yaxel Lendeborg layup, and McKenney buried back‑to‑back threes to stretch the early lead.
La Salle’s aggressive defense put the Explorers in foul trouble, and Michigan reached the bonus before the under‑12 timeout. Nineteen of the Wolverines’ first 31 points came off 10 early La Salle turnovers.
Cadeau hit consecutive threes to reach double figures in under nine minutes, pushing the lead to 17. Will Tschetter added a corner triple late in the half, and Michigan entered the break up 21 — its third‑highest first‑half total of the season — with 12 of its 16 field goals assisted.
Second Half
Michigan opened the second half with two quick layups, then continued to dominate the paint. Mara found Johnson Jr. for a finish, Lendeborg added a steal‑and‑assist sequence, and a 16–2 run pushed the margin to 35.
La Salle went nearly six minutes without a field goal as Michigan’s defense tightened. An 11–0 run, capped by another Tschetter three, pushed the lead past 40. Winters Grady and Oscar Goodman added late buckets, and Howard Eisley Jr. drilled a corner three to push Michigan past 100 points for the second straight game and sixth time this season.
Michigan’s interior defense was suffocating, allowing just four points in the paint after halftime and holding La Salle to 20.8 percent shooting on two‑point attempts. All six of Michigan’s blocks came in the second half.
