(BCSNN) - After powering Wisconsin to one of the biggest wins of the college basketball season, John Blackwell and Nick Boyd were both recognized with major weekly awards.
Blackwell was named the Naismith Trophy Player of the Week Presented by Jersey Mike’s, while Boyd earned Co‑Big Ten Player of the Week honors following standout performances in victories over UCLA and No. 2 Michigan.
Blackwell, a 6‑foot‑4 guard from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3 assists across the two wins. He opened the week with 17 points, four rebounds, and three assists in an 80–72 win over UCLA, then delivered a dominant 26‑point performance in Wisconsin’s 91–88 upset of Michigan. Blackwell shot 9‑of‑16 from the field and knocked down four of the Badgers’ 15 three‑pointers in the victory.
The honor marks Blackwell’s first career National Player of the Week recognition. After earning Big Ten Freshman of the Week four times last season and entering the year on the Naismith Trophy Watch List, he is now averaging 18.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists.
Boyd was equally impressive, averaging 21.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in the two wins. The New York native posted 20 points, eight rebounds, and five assists against UCLA, then followed with 22 points, six assists, and zero turnovers against one of the nation’s top defenses in the win over Michigan.
This is Boyd’s first Big Ten Player of the Week honor. He currently leads Wisconsin in scoring at 19.7 points per game and in assists at 3.4 per game.
Blackwell, Boyd, and the Badgers return to action Tuesday night on the road at Minnesota. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT on BTN.
