(BCSNN) — Freshman stars Darryn Peterson and Flory Bidunga delivered dominant performances Friday night as Kansas rolled past Baylor 80–62 at Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks controlled the game on both ends, shooting efficiently, defending the paint, and responding to every Baylor push.
Peterson scored 26 points on 11‑of‑13 shooting, including 20 in the first half, while Bidunga added 23 points, 11 rebounds, and five blocks in one of his most complete outings of the season.
Kansas (13–5, 3–2 Big 12) exploded out of the gate with a 19–4 run, building a 15‑point lead. Baylor answered with an 8‑0 burst to take its first lead at 37–36, but the Jayhawks closed the half with seven straight points - capped by a Peterson step‑back jumper - to regain control.
The second half belonged to Kansas. Bidunga threw down an alley‑oop dunk through contact and converted the free throw to punctuate a 15–3 run that pushed the lead to 58–40. Baylor opened the half just 1‑for‑6 from the field after missing its final four attempts of the first half, and Kansas never allowed the margin to shrink below 14 the rest of the way.
Peterson, who leads Kansas in scoring at 21.8 points per game, now has six games with 20 or more points. The Jayhawks have shot above 50 percent in back‑to‑back wins, including Tuesday’s 84–63 victory over No. 2 Iowa State.
Baylor (11–6, 1–4) was led by Cameron Carr, who scored 24 points and hit five three‑pointers. Tounde Yessoufou added 20 points and three of Baylor’s 11 threes.
This matchup marked the first time since Dec. 10, 1966, that Kansas and Baylor met while both were unranked in the AP poll. Kansas now leads the all‑time series 37–11, including 21–1 at Allen Fieldhouse.
Up next for the Baylor Bears is a visit from No. 15 Texas Tech on Tuesday. As for Kansas, the Jayhawks will travel to Colorado on Tuesday.
