(BCSNN) – Freshman guard Josiah Parker delivered a breakout performance with his first collegiate double‑double, sparking a dominant second half as Florida Atlantic defeated Temple 79-73 on Sunday afternoon for its fourth straight victory.
Parker finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds, including 19 points on 9‑for‑10 shooting and 10 boards in just 12 second‑half minutes. His surge helped FAU (13-6, 5-1 American) remain atop the conference standings after trailing Temple (11-7, 3-2) for much of the afternoon.
Redshirt sophomore forward Devin Williams, ranked No. 2 nationally in blocks, opened the game with two in the first four minutes. After FAU fell behind early, sophomore forward Maxim Logue ignited the offense with 10 points in four minutes, including back‑to‑back three‑point plays at the rim.
FAU closed a nine‑point deficit to two by holding Temple without a field goal for more than five minutes and limiting the Owls to 26 percent shooting in the half. A three‑point play by junior forward Xander Pintelon cut the margin to 34-30 at halftime.
Pintelon continued his strong play to open the second half, scoring four quick points to tie the game at 38. FAU’s defense forced five turnovers in less than three minutes, and a steal led to an alley‑oop finish by redshirt sophomore guard Devin Vanterpool, who scored eight points in the first five minutes of the half.
Parker then took control, scoring 10 of FAU’s next 13 points, including a jumper to reclaim a 55-54 lead with six minutes remaining. Pintelon and Vanterpool each connected from beyond the arc to help maintain the advantage.
After an acrobatic and‑one finish by junior guard Kanaan Carlyle, Parker delivered another decisive burst, scoring nine of FAU’s next 10 points to secure the win.
