(BCSNN) — Baylor opened its two‑game road stretch with a 67-57 loss to Cincinnati on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Arena, unable to overcome the Bearcats’ second‑half surge despite winning the rebounding battle.
Baylor (11-9, 1-7 Big 12) held advantages on both the offensive and defensive glass but struggled offensively, shooting 35 percent from the field. Cincinnati (11-10, 3-5) was led by Baba Miller, who posted 18 points and 17 rebounds. Jizzle James added 17 points, including five three‑pointers, as the Bearcats secured their third conference win.
Tounde Yessoufou led Baylor with 16 points and seven rebounds. Obi Agbim scored 14 points and made four of Baylor’s six three‑pointers. Dan Skillings Jr., returning to his former home arena, finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and a season‑high two steals.
Both teams opened slowly before Caden Powell scored the first points for Baylor. Cincinnati responded with an 8-0 run to build a 15-5 lead. Baylor answered with a 10-0 stretch, but the Bearcats countered with seven straight points to regain control. Agbim hit three three‑pointers late in the half to keep Baylor within 35-28 at the break.
Skillings opened the second half with a jumper, but Cincinnati again responded with a 7-0 run to take a 42-30 lead. Agbim and Yessoufou reached double figures as Baylor trailed 54-41 at the under‑12 timeout. A flagrant foul on Skillings led to a five‑point Cincinnati possession that extended the margin to 63-46.
Skillings later added a steal and dunk to reach double figures, and Baylor held Cincinnati without a field goal for more than six minutes, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.
Baylor has lost four straight and continues its road trip Saturday at West Virginia.
