(BCSNN) — No. 13 Texas Tech never trailed and used a dominant three‑point performance to defeat West Virginia 70–63 on Sunday at Hope Coliseum. The Red Raiders improved to 17–6 overall and 7–3 in Big 12 play behind 22 points and nine rebounds from JT Toppin.
Christian Anderson recorded his sixth double‑double of the season with 13 points and 11 assists, playing all 40 minutes. Texas Tech shot 13‑for‑24 from three‑point range (54.2 percent) while holding West Virginia to just 2‑for‑22 from deep.
Donovan Atwell hit the first two threes of the game and finished 4‑for‑5 from beyond the arc with 15 points. Jaylen Petty added 11 points on 3‑for‑6 shooting from long range. Toppin made two threes and went 8‑for‑17 from the field. Luke Bamgboye contributed three blocks and five rebounds, while LeJuan Watts added seven points and four boards.
Texas Tech’s three‑point accuracy marked its second‑best outing of the season, trailing only its 17‑for‑29 performance at Baylor. The Red Raiders have now made at least 10 threes in eight straight games and lead the Big 12 with 11.5 made threes per game.
West Virginia (15–9, 6–5 Big 12) was led by Brenan Lorient’s 21 points on 10‑for‑14 shooting. Jasper Floyd and Chance Moore each scored 10. The Mountaineers held a 34–28 rebounding advantage and outscored Tech 38–20 in the paint but were unable to overcome the three‑point disparity.
Texas Tech led 39–27 at halftime after shooting 8‑for‑11 from three in the opening period. Atwell scored 12 first‑half points, including three threes and three free throws after being fouled on a triple. Anderson added eight points and seven assists before the break.
West Virginia opened the second half with an 8–0 run, but Petty and Atwell answered with threes to restore control. Toppin’s first three pushed the lead back to double digits, and a 10–0 run capped by Anderson’s free throws made it 52–37. Anderson’s third three of the night extended the lead to 66–56 as Tech held off a late WVU push.
