(BCSNN) - West Virginia mounted its second double‑digit road comeback in nine days, erasing a 14‑point second‑half deficit to defeat UCF 74–67 on Saturday evening at Addition Financial Arena. The Mountaineers improved to 16–9 overall and 7–5 in Big 12 play, strengthening their postseason profile with a Quad 1 road win.
Honor Huff scored a game‑high 21 points, including 18 after halftime, overcoming a difficult first half to take over late. Florida native Jasper Floyd added 17 points, five rebounds and two steals in front of a large hometown contingent. Brenan Lorient chipped in 11.
UCF (17–7, 6–6 Big 12), which owns home wins over Kansas and Texas Tech, led 29–28 at halftime and opened the second half on a 23–10 run to build a 14‑point advantage. But West Virginia responded with a 16–7 stretch to pull within one, then tied the game on Floyd’s three‑pointer with 6:25 remaining.
Huff scored the next 13 West Virginia points, pushing the Mountaineers ahead 69–62 entering the final minute. UCF, averaging 82.4 points per game, managed only two field goals over the final 5:29 and finished with its lowest home scoring output of the season.
West Virginia’s defense held UCF to a 44.8 percent scoring rate on 67 possessions and forced turnovers on nearly 20 percent of the Knights’ trips. The win moved WVU into a tie with BYU for sixth place in the Big 12 standings.
Head coach Ross Hodge praised his team’s resilience. “The pace was where we needed it,” he said. “We didn’t start the second half great, but our guys trusted each other and made big plays.”
The game also marked a homecoming for Floyd, who secured more than 60 tickets for family and friends. His 17 points were his highest total since the season opener.
