(BCSNN) — No. 14 Kansas steadied itself after a difficult week and extended one of college basketball’s most remarkable home streaks, beating No. 5 Houston, 69-56, on Monday night at Allen Fieldhouse.

Freshman Darryn Peterson scored 14 points and Bryson Tiller added a double‑double as the No. 18 Jayhawks improved to 21–7 and 11–4 in the Big 12.

Kansas, which dropped six spots in the AP Top 25 after an 84–68 loss to Cincinnati on Saturday, responded by handing Houston (23–5, 11–4) its third straight defeat — all against top‑15 opponents. The Cougars had not lost three in a row since January 2017.

Peterson finished 5 of 14 from the field in 30 minutes, while Tiller posted 11 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Melvin Council Jr. added 11 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Jayhawks.

Kingston Flemings led Houston with 16 points on 6‑of‑18 shooting. The Cougars shot just 32 percent from the field and 5 of 24 (21 percent) from three‑point range.

Kansas missed nine of its first 10 shots and went more than eight minutes without a field goal, but closed the first half on an 11–0 run to take a 31–27 lead into halftime. The Jayhawks then used a 12–0 burst early in the second half to stretch the margin to 49–35. The lead grew to 20 before Houston answered with a 7–0 run, but the Cougars never got closer than 10 the rest of the way.

Kansas improved to 52–1 all‑time on ESPN’s Big Monday at Allen Fieldhouse, including 41–0 under head coach Bill Self. The Jayhawks have not lost consecutive home games since the 1988–89 season, Roy Williams’ first year in charge.

Houston, which had won five straight before its current skid, will try to regroup at home this weekend.
