No. 25 Vanderbilt men’s basketball earned a senior night victory over Georgia, 88-80, in its final game at Memorial Gymnasium this season. Six Commodores, including five who were honored in the festivities, scored in double figures.
Vanderbilt (22-6, 9-6 SEC) never trailed on Wednesday, but it took until the final minute for the Dores to pull away from the Bulldogs (19-9, 7-8 SEC). The Commodores started hot, building a 20-point lead midway through the first half. Vandy allowed a rally late in the period, taking a lead of seven into the break. In the second half, both squads traded runs, with Georgia tying the game just under the 10-minute mark. A flurry of free throws and late baskets, along with a cold spell from the Bulldogs, pushed Vanderbilt to an eight-point victory.
Devin McGlockton notched his fourth double-double of the season in his final home game at Vanderbilt, nailing 17 points with 10 boards and two blocks. Tyler Tanner matched McGlockton with 17, adding six rebounds and five assists. Duke Miles, in his second game back from injury, scored 15 points. AK Okereke had 13 with six rebounds and assists. Tyler Nickel and Jalen Washington each notched 10 points.
Vanderbilt shot 21-for-24 from the charity stripe, hitting 10 straight to end the game. The Dores had 44 points in the paint compared to Georgia’s 26. The Commodores had five steals and four blocks in the win.
Jeremiah Wilkinson led Georgia with 28 points, going 5-for-9 from beyond the arc. Kanon Catchings went for 15 and Blue Cain had 10.
The Commodores will complete their regular season with a three-game road trip, beginning with a game at Kentucky this Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
