BCSNN | UPI — Xavier Edmonds delivered the biggest shot of TCU’s season, sinking the game‑winning basket with seconds remaining to lift the ninth‑seeded Horned Frogs to a 66–64 victory over No. 8 seed Ohio State in the NCAA Tournament first round Thursday at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. The Buckeyes’ Bruce Thornton, one of the nation’s top scorers, missed a contested three at the buzzer.
TCU (23–11) advances to Saturday’s second round, where it will face the winner of No. 1 seed Duke and No. 16 seed Siena.
The Horned Frogs built a 15‑point first‑half lead before Ohio State stormed back, taking a 55–50 advantage with 6:19 remaining. TCU responded with timely scoring and defensive stops, capped by Edmonds’ decisive basket after Micah Robinson briefly put the Frogs ahead 64–61. Thornton answered with a three to tie the game, setting up the final sequence.
Robinson led TCU with 18 points and five rebounds, while Collins and David Punch each added 16. Punch grabbed 13 rebounds and Collins added eight as TCU controlled the interior late.
Ohio State (21–13) was paced by John Mobley Jr.’s 15 points and six assists. Devin Royal scored 14 and Amare Bynum added 12. Thornton, who entered averaging 20.2 points per game, was held to 10 on 3‑of‑9 shooting.
TCU will return to action Saturday in Greenville to face Duke, after the Blue Devils narrowly defeated Siena 71-65. That game time will be announced later Thursday night.
