(BCSNN) — Oklahoma extended its postseason run with a disciplined and efficient performance Saturday, closing on a 19–8 run over the final 6:18 to secure an 82–69 win over Baylor in the College Basketball Crown semifinals at T-Mobile Center.
The Sooners (21–15) outshot Baylor 50% to 39% from the field and held a decisive 21–2 advantage in points off turnovers, earning their eighth victory in nine games. Oklahoma will face West Virginia — an 87–70 winner over Creighton — in Sunday’s 4:30 p.m. CT championship game on FOX. A win would give OU its first postseason tournament title.
Junior guard Xzayvier Brown led the Sooners with 21 points, six assists and six rebounds, committing no turnovers in more than 35 minutes. His +14 plus-minus was the highest of any player.
Senior forward Tae Davis added 18 points, including 11 after halftime. Sophomore Derrion Reid scored 17, and sixth-year guard Nijel Pack contributed 15 points, four assists and three steals while moving into 15th place on the NCAA Division I career 3-point list with 432 made threes.
Oklahoma led 45–35 at halftime after controlling most of the opening period. The Sooners forced eight Baylor turnovers before the break and converted them into 13 points. Brown set the tone early with 16 first-half points.
Baylor (17–17) responded with a 17–6 run to take a 52–51 lead with 13:15 remaining — its only lead of the second half. Davis answered with his second 3-pointer of the game, initiating an 8–2 Oklahoma run that restored the advantage.
The Bears trimmed the margin to 63–61 with 6:46 left, but did not make another field goal until the final 31 seconds. Oklahoma maintained control through steady half-court execution and defensive consistency.
Freshman forward Kai Rogers provided meaningful minutes off the bench, recording four points, four rebounds, an assist and a block in a career-high 16:57.
The win improves Oklahoma’s all-time record against Baylor to 47–25 and marks only the Sooners’ second victory in the last 13 meetings.
