(BCSNN) — Nebraska men’s basketball head coach Fred Hoiberg announced that assistant coaches Nate Loenser, Ernie Zeigler and Pat Monaghan, along with general manager Luca Virgilio, have signed multi‑year contract extensions as the Huskers look to build on one of the most successful stretches in program history.
“The success our program had this year is really a testament to the efforts of our entire staff, and it is important to reward them for all of their work,” Hoiberg said. “Nate, Ernie and Luca have been vital over the last four years in helping us build a winning culture. Pat stepped in seamlessly and made a significant impact with his work ethic and recruiting knowledge.”
Loenser, elevated to associate head coach, completed his fifth season on staff and coordinates Nebraska’s defense and individual skill development. The Huskers ranked eighth nationally in defensive efficiency last season and led the Big Ten in scoring defense at 66.2 points per game.
Zeigler, in his fourth season with the program, has helped Nebraska reach the postseason in three straight years — the program’s longest streak in more than 25 years. He works with the offense and plays a major role in scouting, game planning and recruiting. A veteran assistant, Zeigler has been part of 10 NCAA Tournament teams during his career.
Monaghan, who joined the staff in April 2025, contributed across player development, recruiting and game preparation. His first season coincided with Nebraska winning a school‑record 28 games and reaching the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
Virgilio, the longest‑tenured member of Hoiberg’s staff, continues in his role as general manager. He oversees roster construction, player acquisition, transfer portal strategy, international recruiting and player evaluation.
The extensions come as Nebraska looks to sustain its momentum following a historic 2025–26 campaign.
