The turn of the calendar to March not only means the Utah Football program is another month closer to its season opener, the Utes are also set to begin Spring practice. Fifteen practices are on the docket for the team, all leading up to the 22 Forever Game on Saturday, April 13 inside Rice-Eccles Stadium.

This installment of the lead up to Spring Ball features the Utah specialists—a group that projects to look incredibly similar to the 2023 season, highlighted by the return of punter Jack Bouwmeester, kicker Cole Becker and long snapper JT Greep.

RETURNING UTES
Punter Jack Bouwmeester made incredible strides during his second season with the Utes and is back for 2024. Last year saw Bouwmeester earn Pac-12 All-Conference First Team as well as selection as a Ray Guy Award Semifinalist. His average of 45.5 yards per punt led the Pac-12 and placed Bouwmeester 16th nationally, while he booted 19 punts for 50-plus yards. It was the most by a Utah punter since 2018 and came after Bouwmeester had just one 50-yarder in all of 2022.

At kicker the Utes will enter year two under the guidance of Cole Becker, who handled kickoff and placekicking duties in 10 games last year. After transferring from Colorado, Becker had a 15-of-18 line on field goals and was perfect on 28 PAT attempts during 2023. He also kicked off 35 times with 17 touchbacks. Becker split the uprights on one of the most memorable field goals in recent Utah history, connecting on a 38-yarder as time expired to defeat USC inside the L.A. Coliseum last year.

The common thread among the kicking and punting units has been long snapper JT Greep—back for a third season. Greep took over long snapping duties midway through the 2021 season and has appeared in Utah's last 36 games. In that time, Greep has contributed 306 snaps (112 punt, 44 FG, 150 PAT). His 2023 season saw Greep as part of  a punt unit that ranked top-30 in the FBS with a 40.71 net average.
