(BCSNN) — Former Houston safety A.J. Haulcy, one of the most sought-after defensive backs in the transfer portal, has committed to LSU for the 2025 season. Haulcy, a first-team All-Big 12 selection in 2024, announced his decision Sunday after weighing offers from Miami, Ole Miss, and SMU.

Haulcy, a 6-foot, 215-pound safety, has been a standout performer throughout his collegiate career. He began at New Mexico in 2022, earning freshman All-American honors before transferring to Houston, where he led the Cougars with five interceptions and ranked second in the Big 12 with 13 passes defensed. His physicality, versatility, and ability to excel in both man and zone coverage made him a coveted prospect in the portal.

LSU, which has assembled one of the nation’s top transfer classes, prioritized Haulcy to strengthen its secondary. The Tigers lacked veteran depth at safety, making Haulcy’s arrival a crucial addition to their defensive unit. His experience and playmaking ability are expected to provide an immediate impact as LSU prepares for another competitive season in the SEC.
