(BCSNN) — Miami Hurricanes linebacker Adarius Hayes was hospitalized Saturday after being involved in a car crash in his hometown of Largo, Florida, that left two children dead and several others injured, authorities confirmed. The accident occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m. local time when a Dodge Durango collided with a Kia Soul making a left turn at an intersection.

The Largo Police Department identified the victims as 10-year-old Jabari Elijah Solomon and 4-year-old Charlie Herbert Solomon Riveria. Several other individuals were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries, though police have not disclosed their identities or conditions. Authorities have not confirmed whether Hayes was driving at the time of the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.

"This is an ongoing and active investigation, and no further information is available for release at this time," said police in a statement.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident, according to police reports. Hayes, a 20-year-old sophomore, played in 12 games for Miami during the 2024 season, primarily contributing on special teams. He recorded four tackles and an interception in a September victory over Florida A&M.

Miami officials have not commented on Hayes’ condition, but teammates and others associated with the Hurricanes have posted messages on social media offering prayers and support. The university has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.

Hayes, a former four-star recruit from Largo High School, was ranked among the top linebacker prospects in the 2024 class. He originally committed to Florida before flipping to Miami, where he was expected to take on a larger role in the Hurricanes’ defense this upcoming season.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and authorities have urged the public to respect the privacy of those affected as they continue to gather details about the tragic incident.
