(BCSNN) — Martell Hughes intercepted Josh Hoover with 1:02 remaining to seal Arizona State’s 27–24 comeback win over No. 24 TCU on Friday night, giving the Sun Devils their first 2–0 start in conference play since 2012.
Hughes’ pick—his first career interception—came two plays after Jesus Gomez drilled a 23-yard field goal to give ASU its first lead of the night. The game-winner was set up by a strip sack from Prince Dorbah, who recorded a career-high three sacks and forced the fumble that gave ASU possession at the TCU 15-yard line.
Quarterback Sam Leavitt led the Sun Devils (4–1, 2–0 Big 12) on two fourth-quarter scoring drives, including an 11-play, 73-yard march capped by a fourth-down touchdown pass to Jordyn Tyson with 1:50 left. Tyson finished with two touchdown receptions, extending his streak to six straight games with a score.
"The guys find ways. I mean, it's amazing. I don't know. Never seen a strip, strip sack fumble and a two minute drill on our own three and then a quarterback sneak that works, that doesn't work because it's a false start, and then there should be 30 seconds on the clock at the end of the game, because they throw a hold of there's a holding flag, it gives them a free time out again, like Mississippi State. So now there's a minute and 10 left instead of 30 seconds on their final possession. It's like, holy cow."

TCU (3–1, 0–1) led 17–0 midway through the second quarter, but then ASU responded with 14 unanswered points before halftime. Leavitt connected with Tyson for a 57-yard touchdown and added an 8-yard rushing score to close the gap.
Adrian Wilson also intercepted Hoover early in the third quarter, halting a promising TCU drive at the ASU 7-yard line. Gomez tied the game at 17 with a 26-yard field goal, but Hoover’s 1-yard rushing touchdown gave the Horned Frogs a 24–17 lead entering the fourth.
Arizona State has now won nine straight at home, its longest streak since the 2012–14 seasons. The Sun Devils head into a bye week before traveling to Utah on Oct. 11. TCU returns home next week where the Frogs will host the visiting Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday, Oct. 4.
