(BCSNN) -- It was another close one for Iowa, but the Hawkeyes saw Gronowski go down before falling to No. 11 Indiana, 20-15, Saturday afternoon on Duke Slater Field at Kinnick Stadium.
The Hoosiers managed to outgain the Hawkeyes in total yardage, 337-284.
Iowa quarterback Mark Gronowski completed 19 of 25 passes for 144 yards and one interception before exiting with an injury. Hank Brown came on in relief, going 5-for-13 for 48 yards and an interception.
Kamari Moulton led the Hawkeyes on the ground with 75 yards on 18 carries. Gronowski added a rushing touchdown. Sam Phillips paced the receiving corps with five catches for 64 yards.
Defensively, Koen Entringer led Iowa with 10 tackles (seven solo), including two tackles for loss. Zach Lutmer and Deshaun Lee each recorded seven tackles, and Lutmer added an interception.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After an Iowa turnover on its opening possession, Indiana capitalized with a two-play scoring drive capped by a 14-yard touchdown pass.
- The teams traded three-and-outs before Iowa got on the board with 6:25 left in the first quarter on a 40-yard field goal by Drew Stevens, following a five-play, 23-yard drive.
- Iowa’s defense came up big with 5:53 left in the first half, stopping Indiana on fourth-and-1 from the Hawkeyes’ 26-yard line.
- Iowa responded with an 11-play, 73-yard drive, capped by a three-yard touchdown run from Gronowski with 22 seconds remaining in the half.
- Indiana answered quickly, using three plays in 19 seconds to go 47 yards and tie the game at 10-10 on a 46-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
- After a scoreless third quarter, Iowa’s defense delivered another fourth-down stop, giving the Hawkeyes possession at the Indiana 47-yard line.
- Stevens gave Iowa a 13-10 lead with a 54-yard field goal with 12:43 remaining.
- Indiana tied the game at 13-13 with a 44-yard field goal following an eight-play, 49-yard drive.
- An Iowa interception gave Indiana the ball with 6:27 left, but Lutmer returned the favor with a pick at the 3:01 mark.
- Stevens missed a 42-yard field goal attempt with 2:01 remaining, and Indiana took over at its own 32-yard line.
- The Hoosiers scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 49-yard pass with 1:28 left, capping a five-play, 76-yard drive that lasted just 33 seconds.
- Iowa recorded a safety as time expired to make the final score 20-15.
