(BCSNN) — Bobby Petrino is wasting no time trying to put his stamp back on Razorbacks Football again. The interim head coach dismissed three defensive assistants one day after being given the new title by Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek. The move marks a swift overhaul of the Razorbacks’ coaching staff following the firing of Sam Pittman.

Defensive coordinator Travis Williams, defensive line coach Deke Adams, and defensive assistant Marcus Woodson were all relieved of their duties. Williams and Woodson had served as Arkansas’s defensive coordinator since 2023, while Adams joined the staff in 2022.

The changes come in the wake of Arkansas’s 56–13 loss to Notre Dame, which dropped the Razorbacks to 2–3 on the season. Arkansas allowed 688 total yards in the defeat, including six passing touchdowns.

Hoping to shore things up, Petrino announced the promotion of Chris Wilson to interim defensive coordinator. Wilson, who joined the program in 2025 as an assistant defensive line coach, previously held coordinator roles at Mississippi State and Colorado and won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos in 2015.

"My experience [with Wilson] goes way back to having to battle against him when he had all the great defensive linemen at Mississippi State," Petrino said. "Very, very impressed with what he's done throughout his career. Guy's got a Super Bowl ring. He brings a lot of credibility into the room."

Petrino returned to Arkansas in 2023 as offensive coordinator and was elevated to interim head coach following Pittman’s dismissal. He previously led the Razorbacks from 2008 to 2011, compiling a 34–17 record. That run ended in scandal with a former volleyball player, who received a $20,000 gift from the married coach she was having an affair with, being involved in a wreck on his motorcycle.

Arkansas enters its bye week before traveling to No. 15 Tennessee on Oct. 11.
