(BCSNN) — Beth DeBauche has resigned as commissioner of the Ohio Valley Conference, effective immediately, the league announced.
DeBauche, who became the first woman to lead the OVC in 2009, stepped down to focus on family following the recent passing of her father, according to a statement released by the OVC Board of Presidents and Chancellors.
Greg Walter, the conference’s associate commissioner for operations, has been named acting commissioner while the OVC conducts a national search for an interim leader using an outside firm.
"Beth DeBauche has been a transformative leader for the Ohio Valley Conference," John Porter, chair of the OVC board of presidents and chancellors, said in the statement. "Her vision, integrity, and dedication to the student-athlete experience have left an enduring legacy. We are deeply grateful for her years of service and leadership."
During her 16-year tenure, DeBauche oversaw significant changes in membership, governance, and championship operations, helping guide the OVC through a shifting collegiate athletics landscape.
The conference did not announce a timeline for naming an interim or permanent successor.
