(BCSNN) — No. 22 Texas scored 24 fourth-quarter points and sealed its second straight overtime win Friday night, defeating Mississippi State 45–38 at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Quarterback Arch Manning threw for a career-high 356 yards and accounted for four touchdowns — three passing and one rushing — before exiting in overtime, when his head (while wearing his helmet) appeared to bounce hard off the turf. Speaking to reporters postgame, Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian was only able to say, "We'll find out more when we get back to Austin."

Backup Matthew Caldwell stepped in and delivered his first career touchdown pass in burnt orange, connecting with Emmett Mosley IV for the go-ahead score.

Texas (6–2, 3–1 SEC) trailed 38–21 early in the fourth quarter before mounting a furious comeback. Manning hit Mosley for a 21-yard score, Mason Shipley added a field goal, and Ryan Niblett tied the game with a 79-yard punt return touchdown — his third of the season — with under two minutes to play.

On Mississippi State’s final possession, edge rusher Ethan Burke forced a fumble that was recovered by the Longhorns to end the game.

Ryan Wingo led all receivers with a career-best 184 yards, while Parker Livingstone recorded the first multi-touchdown game of his career. Jelani McDonald posted a career-high 14 tackles, and Anthony Hill Jr. added 2.5 sacks.

Texas returns home to host Vanderbilt on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. CT. The game will air on ABC or ESPN.
