(BCSNN) — Marquee wins over ranked opponents fueled the Big 12’s Week Nine football awards, with Utah’s Byrd Ficklin and Houston’s Conner Weigman sharing Offensive Player of the Week honors. Ficklin also earned Freshman of the Week after a historic debut.
Ficklin rushed for 151 yards and a touchdown while throwing for 140 yards and two scores in Utah’s 53–7 win over Colorado. His rushing total was the most by a Ute quarterback in three decades. Utah’s offensive line earned weekly honors after paving the way for 422 rushing yards — the most by an FBS team in conference play this season.
Weigman led Houston to a 24–16 win at No. 24 Arizona State, becoming the first FBS quarterback in three seasons to post 200 passing yards, 100 rushing yards, and three touchdowns without an interception. His 50-yard run was the second-longest by a UH quarterback in Big 12 play.
BYU safety Faletau Satuala earned Defensive Player of the Week with 10 tackles and a 40-yard pick-six to seal the Cougars’ win at Iowa State. Houston’s Eddie Walls III shared the honor after recording three sacks, tying the school record for most in a Big 12 game and helping the Cougars earn Defensive Line of the Week.
Special Teams honors went to TCU’s Nate McCashland, who made three field goals in a win at West Virginia, and Texas Tech’s J’Koby Williams, who returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown and added a receiving score in the Red Raiders’ win over Oklahoma State
