(BCSNN) — James Madison quarterback Alonza Barnett III accounted for five touchdowns and 362 total yards as the Dukes rolled past Texas State 52–20 on Tuesday night at UFCU Stadium, extending their win streak to six games.
JMU (7–1, 5–0 Sun Belt) posted its second consecutive 50-point outing and remains atop the Sun Belt East standings. The Dukes outgained the Bobcats 511–352 and shut out their opponent in the second half for the fourth straight conference game.
Barnett threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns on 12-of-18 passing, adding 98 rushing yards and a score on 10 carries. Nick DeGennaro tallied 101 receiving yards and two touchdowns, including a career-long 76-yard grab. Wayne Knight combined for 117 total yards, while Jordan Fuller rushed for two scores.
JMU’s defense forced three turnovers, including interceptions by DJ Barksdale, Justin Eaglin, and Xavier Holmes. Andrew Taddeo recorded two sacks, and Trent Hendrick and Tyler Brown each posted eight tackles.
The Dukes led 28–20 at halftime before scoring 21 unanswered points in the third quarter to pull away. Texas State (3–5, 0–4) dropped its fourth straight game despite 273 total yards from quarterback Brad Jackson.
