(BCSNN) — North Carolina snapped a four-game losing streak and gave head coach Bill Belichick his first ACC victory Friday night, defeating Syracuse 27–10 inside the JMA Wireless Dome.

The Tar Heels (3–5, 1–3 ACC) outscored the Orange 21–0 in the second half and outgained them 425–147 in total yardage. Freshman Demon June led the way with 182 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns, including a 63-yard catch-and-run to open the third quarter and a 5-yard rushing score later in the frame.

Quarterback Gio Lopez delivered a sharp performance, going 15-of-19 for 216 yards and two touchdowns while adding 33 rushing yards. His 21-yard strike to Jordan Shipp in the fourth quarter capped the scoring.

Defensively, Melkart Abou Jaoude anchored the Tar Heels with six tackles, two sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. Kaleb Cost added five tackles and two pass breakups, while UNC held Syracuse to just 39 passing yards and 3.4 yards per carry.

Belichick praised his team’s resilience postgame, telling ESPN’s Paul Carcaterra, “Once we got to the fourth quarter, we were able to run the ball and grind it out”.

The win keeps UNC’s bowl hopes alive and marks the program’s most complete performance of the season.
