The College Football Playoff Selection Committee underwent a major leadership shift Thursday as Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades stepped down from his role as chair and left the committee amid a university investigation. Arkansas AD Hunter Yurachek was named the new chair, and Utah AD Mark Harlan was reappointed to the committee to fill Rhoades’ vacancy.

Rhoades initiated a leave of absence from Baylor earlier this week following new allegations received by the university on Monday. According to Baylor, the allegations do not involve Title IX, NCAA violations, student welfare, or the football program — and are separate from a prior incident in September involving Rhoades and a football player.

The CFP management committee unanimously approved the changes, with all 10 FBS commissioners and Notre Dame AD Pete Bevacqua signing off. Harlan previously served on the committee in 2023 and returns as the Big 12’s representative.

Yurachek, who has served on the committee since 2024, now leads the 12-person group tasked with ranking the top teams in college football and selecting playoff participants. The committee was already operating one member short after Randall McDaniel stepped away last month for personal reasons.

Baylor named Jovan Overshown and Cody Hall as co-interim athletic directors. Overshown is the deputy AD and COO, while Hall serves as executive senior associate AD and CFO.
