(BCSNN) Georgia played with swagger, aggression, and precision Saturday night. Texas looked like the over-powered and underwhelming team they have regularly proven to be. The result? The No. 5 Dawgs rolled past No. 10 Texas 35-10 in front of a sellout crowd of 93,033 at Sanford Stadium.
Quarterback Gunner Stockton tied a career high with four touchdown passes and added a rushing score, leading the fifth-ranked Bulldogs to their third win over the Longhorns in two seasons.
Georgia (9-1, 7-1 SEC) opened with back-to-back touchdown drives and closed with three more in the fourth quarter, including a surprise onside kick that sparked a nine-play scoring drive. Stockton finished 24-of-29 for 229 yards, connecting twice with Noah Thomas and once each with London Humphreys and Lawson Luckie.
The Bulldogs outgained Texas 357-274 and held the Longhorns to just 23 rushing yards. Arch Manning threw for 251 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted once and sacked three times. Georgia’s defense recorded seven tackles for loss, led by linebacker Chris Cole with seven total stops.
The win evens the all-time series at 4-4 and marks the first time Texas has played in Athens. Georgia will close its regular-season home slate next Saturday against Charlotte.
As for the Longhorns, they probably won't fall too far in the rankings, since the CFP Committee has gone out of its way to inflate the ranking of Texas and other SEC teams this season. It's a rigged system where performance rarely means as much as the name on the uniform, but it's all fans have.
